It is not uncommon for us to receive a client a few days prior to her scheduled breast surgery, seeking guidance, emotional support and practical information. It is at this point that a time critical response is required to address a client needs. The Buddy Program in particular is one of the many services we provide to help our client.
Sometimes just knowing another person has already traveled the path you are on, can provide great comfort and hope. Our Buddy program networks newly diagnosed clients with a survivor by matching similar life circumstances and diagnosis for one-on-one mentoring and support. Through this pairing of individuals, support, guidance, and comfort can be offered to you by someone who has literally “been there.” All connections made through this program are kept strictly confidential.
If you are interested in being a buddy or being matched to a buddy, please contact us.
Read what Julie said about her Buddy experience:
“When I was told that I needed a mastectomy, I was at a total loss as to how to accept the news and how life would be with one breast. I called the BCRC on the Monday before my Friday surgery, asking for a “buddy” to talk to. I was very specific, asking for someone roughly my age, single, and who opted out of reconstruction. That evening, Carol Ann called me and came to my house the very next day. We have been friends every since. She has been incredibly supportive, attentive and helpful, coming to my appointments and even driving me to Ventura for a prosthetic fitting. I can’t say enough about how wonderful the “Buddy Program” has been for me and I’m extremely grateful to have Carol Ann in my life. She stepped in where even my closest friends were at a loss for what to say or do to support me through this ordeal. The Buddy Program is a fantastic resource!”
