HAVE YOU CONSIDERED BECOMING A RESOURCE VOLUNTEER FOR THE BREAST CANCER RESOURCE CENTER?
The Breast Cancer Resource Center is expanding its training program for resource volunteers. The new program will provide potential volunteers with an opportunity to enhance the following skills and knowledge in preparation for working with clients at the BCRC:
- Effective listening skills. Becoming aware of your listening style, your personal blocks to listening, and ways to enhance this valuable gift as a volunteer and in other aspects of your life.
- Verbal and non-verbal communication. How do we convey empathy, understanding, confidence and acceptance when speaking with individuals who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or are concerned about breast cancer risk?
- Intercultural communication. Verbal and non-verbal considerations. How do other cultures view illness and the medical community?
- Knowledge of local resources for breast cancer and breast health
- Improve upon your ability to locate reliable information on the Internet and in libraries.
- Understanding of breast cancer risks, diagnosis, and treatment provided in a lecture by community oncologists.
We are looking for individuals who are good listeners, empathetic, reliable, and positive to provide information and support to people dealing with breast cancer risks, diagnosis, or treatment.
To become a volunteer, please complete the form below or contact Rae Ann Bird, Director of Volunteer at 569-9693, or by email at raeann@bcrcsb.org.
