On Friday, February 5, 2021 BCRC Clients joined online for a Live, Learn, Lunch session focused on Restorative Breast Therapy (RBT) Massage and the Healing Process. Joanne Station, a licensed massage therapist specializing in Restorative Breast Therapy, discussed the benefits of RBT, including how RBT assists the lymphatic system and the healing process. She helped to guide participants through self-care massage techniques and explained how body work helps us heal during the breast cancer journey.
Here are a few highlights we wanted to share:
Complimentary practices are being shown to support healing, and overall wellness, this is where Restorative Breast Therapy can serve beautifully.
1. Covered in this one hour session, was the lymphatic System and the benefits of manual drainage.
2. We were reminded of the importance of Belly Breathing and Lymphatic Flow – this deep breathing moves the diaphragm up and down which encourages the lymphatic system to pump upward in the thoracic duct.
3. Gentle, compassionate touch can be one of the greatest gifts we can give or receive. The very act of laying a gentle, still hand on yourself or another, transmits subtle healing energy on many levels.
Joanne shared with us this wisdom “If you take one thing away from today’s talk, remember this: One more reason to incorporate good, deep breathing into your daily life is that deep breathing impacts lymph flow and lymph flow impacts immune function. Therefore, your quality of breath impacts your ability to fight disease and to heal.”
The BCRC is grateful to Joanne Station, LMT for leading us through this important topic. If you have any specific questions about this LLL session please email Pam at [email protected]
